SHENZHEN, CHINA, 18 December 2020 – Aegicare (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. and MGI Tech Co., Ltd. have announced a strategic partnership to jointly establish an innovative application demonstration centre for high-throughput sequencing technology in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area. The collaboration aims to advance the standardisation, scale and intelligence of genetic disease diagnosis and treatment.

Representatives from both organisations attended the signing ceremony, including Li Yang, Chairman and CEO of Aegicare, and Yu Dejian, President of MGI. The partnership marks the official launch of the first High-throughput Sequencing Technology Innovation Application Demonstration Center in the region.

Strategic partnership to advance genetic diagnostics

Powered by MGI’s MGISEQ-2000 and DNBSEQ-T7 high-throughput sequencing platforms, the centre will support more accurate, efficient and high-quality genetic disease testing services. The two organisations will also collaborate on the development of diagnostic reagents for genetic diseases, strengthening long-term cooperation in clinical genomics.

Combining sequencing technology with intelligent data analysis

Li Yang, Chairman and CEO of Aegicare, emphasised the importance of high-quality genomic data production platforms in enabling intelligent genetic analysis. He noted that combining advanced sequencing platforms with artificial intelligence models will help improve genome data interpretation, clinical decision support and large-scale genetic disease research.

By working together, the partners aim to promote more standardised, automated and intelligent approaches to genomic data generation, analysis and interpretation, ultimately improving genetic disease diagnosis and supporting patient care.

Supporting large-scale genome sequencing capacity

Yu Dejian, President of MGI, highlighted the complementary strengths of both organisations. Aegicare brings expertise in genetic intelligence algorithms, bioinformatics and clinical genetics, while MGI focuses on building core tools and technologies for life science innovation, spanning the entire workflow from sample preparation and sequencing to data output and analysis.

Through this collaboration, the partners aim to expand sequencing data production capacity, develop artificial intelligence platforms for precision medicine and explore new approaches to genetic disease diagnosis, screening and treatment.

Expanding sequencing infrastructure

Founded in 2017, Aegicare is a leading provider of precision diagnostic testing for genetic diseases in China. The company has previously deployed multiple MGISEQ-2000 sequencing platforms to support large-scale genomic testing.

Under the new partnership, Aegicare will expand its sequencing infrastructure with additional MGISEQ-2000 systems and introduce the ultra-high throughput DNBSEQ-T7 platform. Capable of running four flow cells simultaneously, the DNBSEQ-T7 can generate up to 6 Tb of sequencing data per day and complete PE150 sequencing within 24 hours at full capacity.

The deployment of these platforms is expected to strengthen Aegicare’s capabilities in precision diagnosis and treatment of genetic diseases and further advance genomic medicine in the region.
