CEC Brazil

São Paulo, Brazil, 18 April 2024 – Contributing to the advancement of genomics in Latin America, MGI Tech Co. Ltd. (MGI), a company committed to building core tools and technology to lead life science, announced the launch of its Customer Experience Center (CEC) in Brazil.

Commitment to Brazil’s healthcare

The centre aims to provide a state-of-the-art facility for clinical and research laboratories, hospitals, and universities to enhance their experience with genetic sequencing technologies. Applications include precision medicine, oncology, agrigenomics (genomic applications in agriculture), and metagenomics (studying genomes of environmental microbial communities), among other fields.

“Genomic research has grown exponentially in the region. As demand for next-generation sequencing tests in cancer diagnostics and genetic screening increases, hospitals, clinics, laboratories, and universities need access to supporting laboratories that can provide affordable solutions, faster sample processing, and high-quality data,” says Carlos Carpio, Senior Commercial Director of MGI LATAM and General Manager of MGI Brazil.

“Our Customer Experience Center will contribute significantly to the scientific development of the region by reducing sequencing costs, expanding clinical applications, and making precision diagnoses and treatments more accessible to the population,” he adds.

The lab will also serve as the MGI Hub in Brazil, facilitating the expansion of operations across Latin America. It reflects MGI’s ongoing commitment to broadening access to genomics in the region. MGI has been operating in Latin America since 2019 and has partnered with numerous clients, including Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz) in Brazil, Biogenar in Argentina, Gencell in Colombia, Genos in Mexico, and TCL Group in Chile.

In Brazil, MGI’s technology supports the country’s largest genomic sequencing project, aiming to sequence the complete genomes of thousands of patients with rare diseases and hereditary cancers, identifying genetic markers for early diagnosis. Dr. João Bosco de Oliveira Filho, coordinator of the genomic project, highlights MGI’s technology: “I had a wonderful experience working with MGI’s team. The technology is solid, the data quality is outstanding, and support is always available.” He also emphasises the importance of the new CEC: “Researchers and diagnostic laboratories need to stay up-to-date on available technologies to advance their studies and tests; having a local support laboratory and service personnel is therefore extremely important.”

State-of-the-Art Technology Provided in the Lab

MGI operates in 100 countries and has nine other Customer Experience Centers worldwide. The Brazilian center, located in Brooklin Paulista, São Paulo, provides clinical laboratories, universities, and hospitals with a space to engage in demonstrations, enhancing their education and hands-on experience with MGI’s technology. Highly skilled professionals lead certified training sessions, demonstrations, evaluations, and local support for new applications.

The CEC, spanning 270 m², comprises four distinct areas: NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) lab, automation lab, BIT lab, and engineering lab.

MGI’s sequencing capabilities include the high-throughput DNBSEQ-T7, high-speed DNBSEQ-G99, robust and flexible DNBSEQ-G400, and the portable, user-friendly DNBSEQ-E25*. In the automation lab, users can access advanced systems such as the MGISP-100 and MGISP-960 sample preparation systems, high- and low-throughput automated nucleic acid extractors MGISP-384 and MGISP-NE32, and the automated sample transfer system MGISTP-7000.

Researchers and professionals can experience the full range of MGI’s end-to-end solutions at CEC São Paulo, which is fully equipped for genomics laboratory protocols. The center also features bioinformatics products, including ZTRON Pro, a data processing and storage platform, and MegaBOLT, a bioinformatics analysis accelerator series.

CEC São Paulo is located at Avenida das Nações Unidas, 11,633 – 15th floor – Brooklin – São Paulo.
