αCube FAQs
αCube - Frequently Asked Questions
What is αCube?
αCube is an all-in-one data center solution designed for organizations that generate large volumes of sequencing data. It combines computing, storage, and bioinformatics analysis into a locally deployed, automated platform.
Who is αCube designed for?
αCube is intended for research institutions, hospitals, and biotechnology companies that already use or plan to purchase high-throughput sequencers. It is built for users who need efficient, stable, and automated processing of large-scale sequencing data.
What is the main value of αCube?
Its main value is helping users process and manage sequencing data on-premises, reducing data transfer costs and improving efficiency and control. It provides an integrated workflow from sequencing data to analysis results.
What are αCube’s key capabilities?
αCube offers scalable computing and storage for bioinformatics workloads, with support for automated analysis and resource scheduling. It is designed to handle high-throughput data processing with strong system stability and flexibility.
How much storage does αCube provide?
αCube is available with 650 TB or 1,300 TB of usable storage. This is equivalent to approximately 6,500 or 13,000 WGS samples in FASTQ format.
How fast is αCube for WGS analysis?
In its default configuration, αCube can process a 30X WGS sample in about 10 minutes. A single compute node can complete WGS analysis for 12 samples in around 4 hours.
Can customers install their own analysis or management software on αCube?
Yes. αCube provides a Bioinformatics Analysis Workflow Repository that supports a wide range of common workflows, including customer-developed or customer-purchased software. Management software can also be deployed on the platform.
How does αCube connect with sequencing instruments?
The storage is mounted to the sequencer’s BCS server via NFS. If configured with IsSyncCalFile=TRUE, CAL files are written during sequencing, and a JSON flag file is then pushed to trigger automated analysis in ZLIMS.
How secure is data on αCube?
αCube is designed with privacy and security in mind for sensitive genomic data. Its predecessor, ZTRON Pro, obtained European Privacy Seal certification in 2022, which confirmed GDPR compliance at that time.
Can customers use αCube with their own workflows and requirements?
Yes. Customers can upload packaged workflows into the repository and use the platform’s automation and scheduling features. αCube also supports system security review and third-party inspection when required.
