FLP-L FAQs
FLP-L - Frequently Asked Questions
Why launch FLP-L standalone version?
It features an independent software library preparation system for flexible response to diverse application needs, focusing on “sample in, DNB out” one-stop workflows and differentiating from the MGIFLP-L50 “New Sequencing Paradigm” positioning.
What features does it have?
It fully automates sample extraction, library preparation, pooling, DNB creation, and quality control via standalone or interconnected setups. Key features: automated “sample in, DNB out” workflow, a dual “fixed 8-channel + independent single-channel” pipetting system, an integrated quantitative module, user-customizable graphical editing, and a UV/HEPA filtration system for real-time biosafety monitoring.
What are the hardware differences between FLP-L, MGISP-Smart8, and MGISP-100?
Hardware features vary by module across systems:
Pipettor: FLP-L uses fixed 8 & independent 1 channel; Smart 8 uses 8 independent channels; MGISP-100 uses fixed 8 channel.
QC Module & Gripper: Integrated on FLP-L (Smart 8 has gripper only; MGISP-100 has neither).
Scanners: FLP-L has deck scanner only; Smart 8 has robot & deck scanners; MGISP-100 has neither.
HAPE Module: Required for FLP-L and MGISP-100; optional for Smart 8.
How does FLP-L reduce aerosol and cross-contamination?
The HAPE module continuously recirculates fresh air within the instrument during experiments, working alongside recommended MGI automated filter tips to minimize potential aerosol dispersion.
Does the FLP-L automate the opening and closing of tube caps?
No, the system accommodates direct loading of original tubes but does not support mechanized opening or closing of tube caps.
Can the pipette of FLP-L detect insufficient sample volume or empty tubes?
Not currently. This feature is unavailable in the current setup but will be enabled through an upcoming software upgrade for liquid level page detection.
What are the critical instrument parameters of the FLP-L?
Dimensions: Standalone is 1044 mm (L) × 851.5 mm (W) × 1821 mm (H); Interconnected is 1843 mm (L) × 851.5 mm (W) × 1821 mm (H).
Pipettor Range: 1 channel handles 1 µL–1000 µL; fixed 8-channel handles 1 µL–200 µL.
Throughput & Safety: Operates at 4–32 samples per run with 99.995% HEPA filtration at 0.3 µm and >100000 uW.s/cm² UV output.
Do the FLP-L standalone version and the MGIFLP-L50 share the same version of software?
No, the main control frameworks for MGIFLP-L50 and the FLP-L standalone unit run on completely separate, independent software versions.
Which brand's QC module is integrated into the FLP-L, and are there recommended brands of quantitative reagents?
It uses MGI’s proprietary quantitative module and reagents. Third-party quantitative kits are not recommended, as unverified use invalidates data accuracy. Validated reagents include the 1×dsDNA HS Assay Kit (Cat. No. 090-002260-00) and ssDNA Assay Kit (Cat. No. 090-002261-00).
Is FLP-L an open platform? Is it compatible with third-party kits?
Yes, it is an open system supporting custom hardware and script modifications for third-party application kits, though this compatibility excludes the proprietary quantitative module.
