Recently, the 2019 China Mobile Global Partner Conference Forum on Government and Enterprise was successfully held in Guangzhou, under the theme “Creating a 5G Ecology and Bringing a Wonderful Future.” BGI Group Executive Director and COO Lu Jun and MGI CEO Mu Feng were invited to discuss the future of smart healthcare with industry leaders.
Strategic Cooperation in 5G+ Smart Healthcare
At the forum, MGI CEO Mu Feng signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with China Mobile Group to promote the development of the 5G medical terminal industry. China Mobile also launched its 5G Medical Innovation Application System and introduced the 5G Medical Device Standardization Module Cooperation alongside over ten partners, including MGI.
Advancing Medical Industry Applications
The conference featured a sub-forum where industry experts shared insights on the integration of 5G, big data, and artificial intelligence in healthcare. Liu Liang, Deputy Director of BGI Group’s Domestic Regional Planning and Development Center, explained:
“These new technologies will enable remote 5G ultrasound and real-time consultation, promote innovation in medical service models, reduce costs, improve quality, enhance patient experience, and redefine traditional healthcare systems.”
China Mobile also released the 5G Application Scenario White Paper, highlighting 100 real-world 5G applications across 14 key industries.
5G Remote Ultrasound Clinic
One key application is the 5G remote ultrasound clinic, jointly developed by MGI and 301 Hainan Hospital. Using 5G signal transmission technology, remote ultrasound robots allow doctors to scan patients in distant or underserved areas. The system features a doctor end and a patient end, with a robotic arm on the patient side simulating a conventional ultrasound probe. The doctor operates remotely via a virtual joystick, capturing images and diagnosing patients in real-time with low-latency video and audio, just like an in-person examination.
Expanding 5G Smart Healthcare Solutions
MGI leverages China Mobile’s 5G network to enhance intelligent ultrasound, gene sequencing, digital medical applications, and telemedicine solutions. This collaboration aims to deliver remote imaging, genetic testing, and other services to hospitals and promote better distribution of medical resources.
Medical Big Data and AI Innovations
In addition, MGI applies its expertise in gene sequencing and intelligent image recognition to explore medical big data and artificial intelligence. This includes clinical decision support, precision medicine, end-to-end data privacy, secure sharing, and blockchain applications in life and health. The collaboration fosters innovative business models and multi-scene applications in smart healthcare.
