Saudi Arabia, May 31, 2022 — Global life-science innovator MGI Tech Co. Ltd. (MGI) and King Abdullah International Medical Research Centre (KAIMRC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to launch a strategic collaboration in genomic science and biotechnology. The new agreement will drive cutting-edge research focused on preventing disease, improving health outcomes, and supporting advanced training for healthcare professionals and scientists.
Under this partnership, MGI and KAIMRC will lead an international research program powered by MGI’s advanced technologies, with a focus on genomics and bioinformatics for human health and disease. A major goal of the collaboration is to strengthen regional talent and expand local expertise in these fast-growing fields.
Leveraging MGI’s proprietary DNBSEQ™ technology*, the collaboration will deploy MGI’s high-performance sequencing platforms to improve data quality and throughput across multiple applications, including human genome sequencing, transcriptomics, infectious disease research, and microbial studies such as COVID-19 surveillance and epidemiology.
The MOU also calls for the creation of a high-throughput sequencing centre at KAIMRC. The facility will be equipped with MGI’s latest DNBSEQ™ sequencing* systems, laboratory automation tools, and bioinformatics solutions. Beyond scientific research, MGI and KAIMRC will work together in business development, marketing, communications, and education to expand awareness and advance genomic innovation across the region.
