Cheonan, South Korea, 26 April 2023 – MGI Tech Co., Ltd. (“MGI”), a company committed to developing core tools and technologies to advance the life sciences, today celebrated the opening of its Customer Experience Center (CEC) in South Korea. Established in partnership with Bio-Medical Science Co., Ltd. (“BMS”), one of the country’s leading life science technology companies, the new CEC in Cheonan will provide local customers and partners with first-hand access to MGI’s advanced sequencing and automation solutions.
At the opening ceremony, representatives from both companies marked the launch of the facility, including JK Cho, Vice President of BMS; Roy Tan, General Manager of MGI APAC; SK Kim, CEO of BMS; Duncan Yu, President of MGI; Jae Young Yun, MGI Representative; and Luqi Zhang, Deputy Director of the MGI Product Marketing Center.
“Genomics is a rapidly growing field in South Korea, and we are pleased to work with BMS to welcome researchers and partners from Korea and the wider APAC region to our new Customer Experience Center,” said Duncan Yu, President of MGI. “Equipped with our latest sequencing and automation platforms, the centre will serve as a key meeting point for the local research and diagnostic community, supporting the exchange of ideas and the advancement of genomic research and medical innovation.”
Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between MGI and BMS, the facility will act as a hub for both prospective and existing customers to learn about and experience MGI’s technologies. The CEC features MGI’s DNBSEQ-T7*, DNBSEQ-G400* and DNBSEQ-G99* sequencing systems, as well as the MGISP-960 automated sample preparation platform. Visitors can also conduct on-site demonstrations with support from BMS Field Application Scientists and take part in academic lectures, conferences and webinars showcasing MGI’s technological innovations.
MGI’s partnership with BMS dates back to 2019, when BMS acquired the DNBSEQ-G400* benchtop sequencer, recognising its accuracy, ease of use and cost-effective DNA and RNA sequencing workflows. In the same year, BMS became the first company in the Asia-Pacific region to join MGI’s Global Sequencer User Program (SUP), an open platform designed to advance genetic technologies and applications through customised products, services, technical support and co-marketing initiatives.
