KAGAWA, Japan – June 21, 2022 – MGI Tech Co., Ltd. (MGI), a company dedicated to developing core tools and technology to lead life science innovation, has partnered with Taniguchi Dental Clinics to strengthen genomic research and sequencing capabilities in Japan.
Mr. Taniguchi, founder and head of the Oral Microbiome Centre at Taniguchi Dental Clinics, also leads three organizations — the Oral Microbiome Centre, Taniguchi Dental Clinic, and Genome Lead, a sequencing service provider based in Kagawa Prefecture. Since 2014, he has been devoted to studying and analysing the human oral microbiota to improve dental care and disease prevention through personalized treatment strategies.
To date, Mr. Taniguchi has conducted more than 5,000 oral flora 16S rRNA metagenomic analyses using next-generation sequencing. His work also extends to studying microbial communities in other body sites, such as the intestines, skin, and endometrium, as well as environmental samples including fish and soil. He has also contributed to a large-scale intestinal microbiota analysis project led by a local medical university, analysing several thousand samples.
In 2021, Mr. Taniguchi established Genome Lead, an independent entity providing high-quality NGS services across microbiome analysis, whole genome sequencing (WGS), whole exome sequencing (WES), and RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) for universities, hospitals, research institutions, and commercial clients.

With the introduction of the DNBSEQ-T7* and MGI’s automation systems (MGISP-100, MGISP-960), Genome Lead now achieves high-efficiency sequencing with minimal hands-on time. The DNBSEQ-T7 can generate up to 6 terabases (Tb) per day, offering exceptional throughput and flexibility with four independently operated flow cells. Mr. Taniguchi highlighted the systems’ accuracy, reproducibility, and scalability as key advantages for his laboratory.
