Dubai, UAE, 11 January 2022 – Global life science innovator MGI Tech Co. Ltd. (MGI) is aiming to expand its market share in the Middle East and Asia through participation at Guangdong Week, held at the China Pavilion of Expo 2020 Dubai from January 11–13.
Showcasing Sequencing and Automation Technologies
Headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China, MGI will demonstrate its DNBSEQ-T7* sequencing platform and MGISP-NE384 automation system at the event. These technologies have played a key role in supporting the Middle East and Gulf region in combating COVID-19.
“MGI’s technology has been pivotal in fighting the spread of the coronavirus by enabling rapid detection and continuous monitoring of its changes. This allows healthcare providers and authorities to track its spread accurately and take measures to protect populations,” said Dr. Roy Tan, General Manager of MGI Asia Pacific.
“The omicron variant shows that highly transmissible forms of the virus will likely remain a feature of COVID-19 moving forward. Prompt detection and identification of variants is essential for early intervention. While COVID-19 will be a permanent part of the new normal, effective gene sequencing ensures we can minimise its impact through genomic surveillance,” he added.
Supporting Scientific Research Beyond COVID-19
MGI products not only assist in pandemic response but also support scientific research and applications across the Middle East. Guangdong Week provides an ideal platform to highlight MGI’s gene sequencing platforms* and automation systems to a global audience.
“Guangdong Week allows us to showcase DNBSEQ™ technology, which has been instrumental in fighting COVID-19 and supporting other biotechnology initiatives. With officials and policymakers from across the world attending, this is the perfect opportunity to demonstrate the impact of our technology,” Dr. Tan continued.
Contribution to COVID-19 Surveillance in the Region
MGI’s DNBSEQ sequencing technology has contributed to the rapid detection and surveillance of the omicron variant in Saudi Arabia, including identifying the first case in the country using MGI sequencers* supplied to Saudi MOH laboratories.
Expanding Presence in the Middle East
MGI’s participation at Expo 2020 Dubai is part of a broader expansion strategy in the region. Since February 2019, MGI has increased its footprint in the Gulf, opening an office in Dubai to serve partners and clients. Its regional presence includes the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, supporting universities, hospitals and healthcare institutions.
Upcoming Exhibitions
In addition to Guangdong Week, MGI is participating online in the Arab Health Exhibition and Congress from January 5 to February 28, showcasing the MGIUS-R3 robotic ultrasound system. From January 24–27, MGI will attend Medlab Middle East at booth Z4G30, unveiling the DNBSEQ-G400* and DNBSEQ-G50* platforms, MGISTP-3000 automated sample transfer system, mobile nucleic acid testing platform, and MGISP-Smart8 automated sample preparation system to international audiences for the first time.
