Shanghai, China, 9 November 2021 – MGI, Roche, Aisono and Shanzhen announced a strategic alliance on “Early Detection, Early Diagnosis, and Early Treatment” of cancer during the 4th China International Import Expo. This collaboration aims to make medical resources more accessible and improve cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment in China.
MGI’s Robotic Ultrasound System, MGIUS-R3, is the world’s first innovative system for remote cancer detection. It is central to the Early Detection, Early Diagnosis, and Early Treatment Program, helping reduce treatment costs and improve outcomes.
Extending medical services to rural areas
To address the shortage of medical resources in rural China, MGI partnered with Roche and Aisono to provide early cancer detection and diagnostic services. Using 5G, Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things (AIOT) technologies, the MGIUS-R3 system overcomes the limitations of traditional ultrasound diagnostics, delivering high-quality services to patients in remote areas.
Wu Li, General Manager of MGI Yunying, explained, “MGI and Roche will build a remote, real-time diagnosis linkage connecting higher-level hospitals, community clinics and health centers to improve medical services in remote areas. Empowered by 5G, MGIUS-R3 enables real-time diagnosis without the sonographer and patient being in the same location.”
MGI has established nationwide collaborations with leading hospitals and experts in China. The 5G-powered Robotic Ultrasound Vehicle provides one-stop ultrasound diagnosis, allowing patients to receive professional care from home.
Robotic Ultrasound Vehicle for mobile clinics
In April 2021, MGI launched the Robotic Ultrasound Vehicle, featuring an Examination Area, Information Input Area and Sample Collection Area. It enables doctors to conduct ultrasound diagnostics remotely. Earlier this year, the vehicle provided free breast cancer screening in Anji County, Zhejiang, in collaboration with Roche, China Women and Children Foundation, and Shanghai Tenth People’s Hospital.
In June, the vehicle visited Tongren, Guizhou, offering free thyroid diagnostics. Its mobility and ease of use overcome distance and resource limitations, making real-time ultrasound diagnostics widely accessible.
Regulatory approvals and clinical impact
MGIUS-R3 has received approval from the Chinese National Medical Products Administration and the European Commission’s CE Marking certification. This strengthens MGI’s clinical product portfolio and reinforces its commitment to high-quality healthcare, particularly in areas with limited medical resources.
