Riga, Latvia, 7 September 2022 — MGI Tech Co., Ltd. (MGI), in collaboration with the Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre, hosted the 17th International Conference of Genomics (ICG-17) from 7–9 September in Riga, Latvia. At the conference, MGI introduced its new commercial sequencing chemistry HotMPS* and, together with STOmics, launched a spatial transcriptomics grant program.
Under the theme OMICS FOR ALL, ICG-17 provides a platform for leaders in genomics to share knowledge, foster collaborations, and advance omics research. Riga, a key trade and industrial hub in Latvia, is also home to MGI’s Latvian facility, which since 2019 has served as a hub for research, development, production, logistics, and customer training across Europe and Africa.
ICG-17 featured a comprehensive scientific agenda covering single-cell and stereomics, microbiome and multi-omics, precision medicine, COVID-19 research, women in science, and biobanks for personalised medicine. MGI scientists shared data from HotMPS* chemistry on DNBSEQ-G400 and DNBSEQ-T7, highlighting applications in WGS, WES, RNA-seq, and third-party libraries.
HotMPS* builds on MGI’s proprietary DNBSEQ™ technology* to deliver low error rates, low duplication rates, and minimal index hopping. Initially launched for DNBSEQ-G400**, it has now been expanded to DNBSEQ-T7**, improving speed, throughput, and flexibility. Dr István Szatmári (University of Debrecen, Hungary) presented data demonstrating HotMPS*’s suitability for global transcript profiling.
STOmics Spatial Transcriptomics Grant Program
At ICG-17, STOmics announced a grant providing 12 Stereo-seq (Spatial Enhanced Resolution Omics-Sequencing) chips, sequencing, and data analysis to selected global projects (excluding mainland China). Stereo-seq, based on DNA Nanoball (DNB) technology, allows in situ mRNA capture with spatial localization, enabling advanced gene expression analysis, cell type identification, and cell-to-cell communication mapping in tissue microenvironments.
Advancing Genomics Across Europe and Africa

Since 2006, ICG has convened over 1,000 top scientists, practitioners, institutional leaders, Nobel Laureates, and entrepreneurs, attracting over 10,000 on-site attendees and 10 million online participants over 17 years. Important Remarks:
HotMPS* reagents work only with MGI sequencers configured for HotMPS. Using these reagents with unconfigured sequencers may invalidate warranties and IP indemnity.
MGI sequencers configured for HotMPS must not be used with CoolMPS or StandardMPS reagents.
Availability of HotMPS*, DNBSEQ-G400**, and DNBSEQ-T7** is limited to selected countries.
StandardMPS and CoolMPS reagents, and sequencers for their use, are unavailable in Germany, Spain, UK, Hong Kong, Sweden, Belgium, Italy, Finland, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Portugal, Austria, and Romania. U.S. orders will not be accepted before 1 January 2023.
