Ningbo, China, 8 June 2021 – The 2nd China-CEEC Expo is taking place from 8 to 11 June in Ningbo, Zhejiang province. The event aims to explore new opportunities to strengthen international trade in consumer goods and services between China and Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries.
The China-CEEC Expo presents a range of high-tech products and projects from successful companies across CEE nations, as well as key achievements in cooperation between China and CEE countries. These include collaboration in trade, investment, COVID-19 response, connectivity, regional development and the digital economy. MGI Latvia stands as a strong example of this partnership.

High-Throughput Sequencing Customer Experience Centre Supporting Life Science and Health Research
MGI Latvia, a subsidiary of MGI, has established a unique Customer Experience Centre equipped with MGI’s high-throughput gene sequencing platforms. The facility provides strong local technical support to major European universities and research institutions.

The centre has supplied equipment to several major international research initiatives, including the Million Microbiome of Humans Project (MMHP), which aims to build the world’s largest human microbiome database. It also supports the 10,000 Birds Genome Project (B10K) and the Horizon 2020 programme, including the project Toward Precision Toxicology: New Approach Methodologies for Chemical Safety.

The 7,000 square metre facility also serves as MGI’s production centre in Europe. MGI Latvia has obtained ISO 13485 certification and is capable of producing clinical gene sequencing systems and related reagents.
Contributing to Europe’s COVID-19 Response
MGI Latvia has played an important role in supporting Europe’s response to COVID-19. In 2020, MGI provided automated nucleic acid extraction equipment to the Latvian national scientific institute BIOR, increasing Latvia’s COVID-19 testing capacity fivefold.
MGI Latvia also supplied a COVID-19 Container Lab, an innovative mobile testing solution designed for rapid, large-scale testing. The laboratory supported mass testing for participants at the International Skating Union World Figure Skating Championships, an Olympic qualification event held from 23 to 28 March in Sweden.

During the China-CEEC Expo & International Consumer Goods Fair on 9 June, MGI will demonstrate the Container Lab online to visitors in the Netherlands.
As the specialist explains the mobile testing solution, “The Container Lab operates under negative pressure and complies with BSL-2+ standards. The laboratory includes three main functional areas: a reagent preparation room, sample preparation room and testing room. Its flexibility and mobility reduce the time required for sample transportation and eliminate the need for patients to travel to testing facilities, helping improve pandemic control.”
MGI’s Container Lab solution has supported pandemic prevention and control efforts across many cities in China, including Fuzhou, Fuyang, Qingdao Customs, Xiamen and Langfang. The system can also be used for large-scale testing of other infectious diseases such as SARS, Ebola, HIV and influenza, providing strong support for authorities responding to public health emergencies.
