Zhuhai, China, 18 September 2021 — MGI launched its all-in-one “Intelligent + Telemedicine” Robotic Ultrasound Platform at the 14th Congress of the Asian Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (AFSUMB 2021), held together with the 21st Annual Meeting of the Chinese Society of Ultrasound in Medicine (CSUM 2021) from 16 to 19 September 2021 in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province.
The platform integrates a remote ultrasound robot, handheld ultrasound device, MGI robotic ultrasound vehicle and a cloud-based platform for remote diagnosis, creating a comprehensive telemedicine solution.
Addressing shortages in medical resources
MGI’s all-in-one platform is designed to help relieve the shortage of medical resources in underserved areas.
With the rapid development of 5G technology, cloud computing and artificial intelligence, telemedicine has become increasingly accurate and secure. Major hospitals in large Chinese cities have already been conducting remote training and consultations with rural hospitals to help distribute high-quality medical expertise to resource-limited regions.
However, many traditional telemedicine consultation methods rely only on audio or video communication and image transmission software, making it difficult for experts to conduct real-time diagnostic procedures remotely.
To address this challenge, MGI developed the all-in-one “Intelligent + Telemedicine” Robotic Ultrasound Platform using advanced technologies including cloud computing, encrypted cloud storage, high-definition audio and video systems, instant messaging and blockchain encryption to create a new consultation experience for both doctors and patients.
Enabling remote intelligent diagnosis
The platform enables sonographers to perform “remote intelligent diagnosis”, overcoming the distance limitations of traditional ultrasound diagnostic methods and supporting the development of a new smart healthcare ecosystem.
Using the system, doctors can control a robotic arm located beside the patient through a control interface at the doctor’s workstation, allowing remote real-time diagnosis for patients located up to 1,000 kilometres away.
Experts can also conduct online consultations through the cloud-based platform to assist with diagnosis of conditions such as haemangioma and fatty liver.
Expanding access to real-time consultations

The platform also incorporates MGI handheld ultrasound devices and a 5G-powered robotic ultrasound vehicle to further expand diagnostic capabilities.
Supporting collaborative telemedicine services
Through online diagnostic services, patients can receive high-quality medical care from home, reducing travel time and costs.
The platform enables real-time two-way communication and comprehensive information sharing between patients and doctors, helping meet healthcare needs in remote and underserved regions.
In addition to remote diagnosis, the system supports a wide range of telemedicine services, including multi-expert remote consultations, high-definition virtual conferences, remote teaching, AI-assisted diagnosis and academic discussions, creating a collaborative digital healthcare ecosystem for medical institutions.
MGI’s remote robotic ultrasound system has received Class III medical device certification from the China National Medical Products Administration (NMPA).
