Guiyang, China, 26 May 2021 — The China International Big Data Industry Expo 2021 (Big Data Expo 2021) is taking place from 26 to 28 May at the Guiyang International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

At the event, MGI is presenting a wide range of innovative technologies and platforms, including a laboratory information management system, a remote robotic ultrasound system, a gene sequencing platform and a one-stop nucleic acid testing platform.

Big Data Platforms Supporting Public Health Systems

MGI’s big data management platforms contribute to the development of modern public health protection systems.

MGI’s proprietary BIT products integrate biological technology and information technology to enable full-cycle data management. This includes bio-sample management, laboratory production, bioinformatics analysis and data governance.

At the expo, MGI showcased its one-stop nucleic acid testing platform and gene sequencing platform, both of which can be connected with the ZLIMS system. Together, they enable automated management across the entire testing workflow, from barcode identification and sample dispatch to nucleic acid extraction, fluorescence quantitative PCR detection and final report distribution.

These integrated platforms can assist health institutions in comprehensive virus identification and classification, complete viral whole-genome sequencing and real-time monitoring of laboratory equipment status.

MGI ZLIMS Intelligent Information Management System

During the COVID-19 pandemic, large-scale nucleic acid testing has played a crucial role in epidemic prevention and control. MGI’s one-stop nucleic acid testing platform integrates the MGISTP-7000 automated sample transfer processing system, the MGISP-960 high-throughput automated sample preparation system and the ZLIMS intelligent laboratory management system.

This integrated solution enables automated barcode scanning, information verification, sample dispatching, nucleic acid extraction and real-time monitoring of the entire testing process. By reducing complex pre-analytical steps, the system lowers the workload for laboratory technicians while significantly improving large-scale testing capacity.

MGI’s One-Stop Nucleic Acid Testing Platform

MGI’s proprietary gene sequencing platform allows authorities to obtain viral genome sequence information, providing essential data for virus tracing, vaccine development and epidemic prevention strategies.

Earlier in February, MGI’s BIT products were implemented in the Shanxi Network Laboratory Information Management System programme to support the development of a public health protection system in Shanxi Province, China.

To further improve rapid outbreak response, MGI has integrated its one-stop nucleic acid testing platform, gene sequencing platform and BIT products into a mobile laboratory vehicle. The vehicle can be quickly deployed to locations such as customs checkpoints, seaports and Centres for Disease Control to meet urgent testing requirements during public health emergencies.

In addition to large-scale testing, the system can also support virus identification and classification to monitor viral variation.

5G-Powered Robotic Ultrasound Expanding Access to Healthcare

MGI also demonstrated its 5G-powered Robotic Ultrasound Vehicle, another key innovation on display at the expo.

This system enables doctors to conduct ultrasound examinations remotely from a hospital, even when patients are located thousands of kilometres away. Through simulation-based robotic control and real-time interactive screens over a 5G network, doctors and patients can communicate directly during the diagnostic process.

Prior to the Big Data Expo, the robotic ultrasound vehicle travelled 1,633 kilometres from Shanghai to Xujiaba Town in Sinan County, Tongren City, Guizhou Province, providing voluntary medical services to residents in the area.

As part of the “Early Screening, Early Diagnosis and Early Treatment” programme in Anji, Zhejiang Province, the vehicle also supported Shanghai No.10 People’s Hospital in delivering remote breast cancer diagnostic services to patients in remote communities.

MGI’s 5G-Powered Robotic Ultrasound Vehicle

MGI’s remote robotic ultrasound system, MGIUS-R3, combines robotic technology, remote real-time control systems and high-resolution ultrasound imaging. The system’s mobility and ease of operation allow ultrasound diagnostics to reach more patients, particularly in areas with limited medical resources.

MGIUS-R3 has obtained NMPA approval in China and CE certification in Europe. It further strengthens MGI’s healthcare technology portfolio and expands access to high-quality medical services.

MGIUS-R3 Remote Robotic Ultrasound System

During the COVID-19 pandemic, MGIUS-R3 was deployed to frontline hospitals to support remote diagnosis while reducing the risk of virus transmission to medical staff.

Since 16 February 2020, the system has supported mobile hospitals in Wuhan, including Leishenshan Hospital, which treated critically ill COVID-19 patients, as well as Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University.

Beyond pandemic response, the robotic ultrasound system can also support a wide range of smart healthcare scenarios, including emergency rescue and health management. By improving access to advanced medical services, the system contributes to the ongoing digital transformation of healthcare.
