MGI Tech Qingdao Production Base officially Launched a Reagent Production Line

Qingdao, China, 8 April 2021 — The opening ceremony for MGI’s reagent production line was held at the company’s Qingdao base, marking an important milestone in the development of advanced medical and life science manufacturing in the region.

The project covers an area of 2.5 hectares with a total construction area of 37,000 square metres. Its launch represents a significant step towards establishing MGI Qingdao as a high-end medical and health equipment manufacturing hub in Northeast Asia.

Opening Ceremony Marks Major Development Milestone

The ceremony was attended by several government and company representatives, including Ni Yanfen, member of the Qingdao Sino-German Ecological Park; Tang Hua, Head of the Comprehensive Coordination Department of the Sino-German Ecological Park; Mu Feng, CEO of MGI; Duncan Yu, President of MGI; Liu Jian, Executive Vice President of MGI; and Ni Ming, General Manager of MGI Qingdao.

The attendees jointly witnessed the official opening of the new production facility.

MGI Strengthens Reagent Manufacturing Capacity

During the event, Mu Feng, CEO of MGI, toured the production base and reviewed the new reagent manufacturing facilities.

The Qingdao reagent production line focuses on the manufacturing of core raw materials, including general sequencing reagents, library preparation reagents and enzymes. These components play a critical role in supporting high-throughput and high-accuracy sequencing technologies.

The enzyme reagent production line, which complies with international standards, is the first to begin operation at the site. Covering approximately 2,400 square metres, the facility will manufacture key chemical consumables used in advanced genomic sequencing workflows.

Strategic Investment in Qingdao

The MGI Qingdao Production Base project was officially signed on 30 August 2019 in the China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone. The facility is located within the Qingdao Free Trade Zone’s Sino-German Ecological Park, a strategic location designed to support international cooperation and high-end manufacturing.

With the opening of the reagent production line, MGI continues to expand its manufacturing capabilities while strengthening its role in the global life sciences and healthcare technology industry.
