On 30 March 2022, a 5G cloud-based remote real-time ultrasonic consultation was successfully conducted between the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou (“Sun Yat-sen First Hospital”) and the First Hospital of Sanming City in Fujian Province (“Sanming First Hospital”), over a distance exceeding 700 kilometers. Sonographers in Guangzhou performed remote diagnosis for a patient with a tumour at Sanming First Hospital.
This consultation provides regular, high-quality ultrasonic medical services for residents of Sanming through a combination of remote ultrasonic consultations, training, and case studies, following the official opening of the Sanming First Hospital Remote Ultrasonic Medical Center, supported by Zhongshan First Hospital.
The MGI robotic ultrasound system, MGIUS-R3, integrates remote scanning, parameter adjustment, and real-time communication, enabling sonographers in Guangzhou to perform live scans and diagnosis for patients located 100 kilometres away in the Remote Ultrasonic Medical Center of Zhongshan First Hospital. The collaboration between Sun Yat-sen First Hospital and Sanming First Hospital exemplifies the use of advanced technology to extend high-quality medical care to resource-constrained areas. Using robotic ultrasound and 5G networks, experts can participate directly in the diagnosis and treatment of complex diseases for patients in remote locations, helping to address shortages of skilled medical personnel.
