Singapore, 2 March 2023 – MGI’s remote robotic ultrasound system, MGIUS-R3, has been approved for Medical Device Registration by the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) of Singapore, bringing an advanced ultrasonic diagnostic solution to Southeast Asia.

MGIUS-R3 is a robotic ultrasound system that allows clinicians to perform real-time examinations by remotely operating an ultrasound probe. By integrating robotic technology with a remote real-time control and feedback system, the platform overcomes the distance limitations of conventional ultrasound, enabling applications such as remote diagnosis and 5G-enabled medical collaboration.

The system has previously obtained Class III medical device approval from the China National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), European CE certification, and registration with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) of Australia, gaining recognition in both domestic and international markets.

As of June 2022, MGI’s 5G robotic ultrasound system had been deployed across 21 provinces, cities and regions in China. Through partnerships with multiple hospitals, the system supports remote-assisted diagnosis and screening. Patients can receive professional examinations from Grade-A tertiary hospitals without travelling, simply by booking appointments through official hospital WeChat accounts. This model has contributed to faster and more efficient pre-hospital emergency care, enabling seamless information sharing between pre-hospital and in-hospital services.

MGIUS-R3 also helps address shortages in medical resources. By extending access to high-quality diagnostic services in resource-constrained areas, the system reduces pressure on frontline clinicians while lowering the risk of cross-infection. It has already been widely adopted in infectious disease prevention and control settings, including fever clinics in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Xi’an.

HSA registration, alongside NMPA approval and European CE certification, further strengthens MGI’s product portfolio and supports the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services, particularly in regions with limited access to specialist medical care.
