WUHAN, CHINA, July 15-16, 2021 — MGI launched the DNBSEQ-E5 Genetic Sequencer* for pathogenic microorganism sequencing at the Second Infectious Disease Diagnosis Technology Innovation Forum (IDD).
Compact, fast, and easy-to-use
The DNBSEQ-E5* is a small, lightweight sequencer designed for rapid and flexible sequencing. Its user-friendly interface lowers the operational threshold, making high-speed gene sequencing accessible to frontline institutions such as Customs and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCs). The equipment is available for orders in mainland China only.

Rapid pathogen detection
The DNBSEQ-E5* can generate sequencing data in just 4.5 hours (SE50), enabling fast responses for urgent samples, including unknown pathogens. Case studies presented by Senior Product Manager Zhang Luqi showed its use in sequencing phage samples and identifying potential pathogens in alveolar lavage fluid, producing drug resistance results consistent with culture-based testing in much shorter timeframes.
Quick setup and innovative technologies
The DNBSEQ-E5* is portable — roughly the size of a laptop — and ready for use in 10 minutes without requiring specialised lab conditions. Its three key innovations based on MGI’s DNBSEQ™ technology are:
Self-luminous biochemical system — generates signals without an external light source, enhancing portability and stability.
Integrated signal acquisition module — similar to smartphone photosensitive technology, allowing direct reading of base signals.
Microfluidic sequencing chip — replaces traditional fluidics, letting reagents enter the chip directly.
