Defining Moments in Sequencing Innovation

2017

Desktop sequencing becomes practical

The introduction of the G50 and G400 marked a shift towards compact, bench-top sequencers that combined power with flexibility. These systems made high-quality sequencing more accessible for everyday laboratory use, supporting applications such as cancer research and transcriptomics without the need for large, complex infrastructure.

2018

Sequencing goes industrial

The launch of the T7 platform signalled a move into true industrial-scale sequencing. With the ability to generate massive volumes of data daily, it enabled national genome programmes to operate faster and more cost-effectively, supporting large population studies across multiple countries.

2022

Portable sequencing takes off

A new wave of compact and efficient sequencers, including the E25 and G99, brought speed and portability to the forefront. These systems allowed faster turnaround times for diagnostics and proved capable of operating in extreme environments, opening up field-based research in areas like biodiversity and infectious disease monitoring.

2023

The $100 genome becomes a reality

Advances in cost efficiency pushed whole-genome sequencing below the $100 mark, making large-scale genomic projects far more viable. Platforms like the T20×2 enabled high-volume sequencing at low cost, accelerating the adoption of genomics in population studies and moving precision medicine closer to routine clinical use.

AI and the future

Artificial intelligence is becoming embedded within sequencing workflows, simplifying analysis and improving accuracy.
