MGI Tech “We Believe the System Has a Promising Future”, Chinese Sonographers Embrace MGI Remote Robotic Ultrasound System

TAIYUAN, CHINA, July 24, 2021 — The forum “New Era of 5G-powered Remote Robotic Ultrasound System” was held in Taiyuan, Shanxi province. Co-organized by the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, its Ultrasound Branch, and MGI, the event gathered scientists and ultrasound experts to discuss academic achievements and the application prospects of 5G-powered Remote Robotic Ultrasound Systems.

Forum highlights

Professor Li Qiuyang from Beijing 301 Hospital presided over the forum. Professor Luo Yukun of Beijing 301 Hospital explained that MGI’s Remote Robotic Ultrasound System, powered by 5G and artificial intelligence (AI), enables remote real-time diagnosis without the physician and patient being in the same location.

AI and 5G applications in healthcare

Chen Xuan, Chief AI Scientist at MGI, introduced the MGIUS-R3 Remote Robotic Ultrasound System and AI diagnosis platforms, highlighting applications across various disease diagnostics and the latest research developments.

Addressing medical resource shortages

Professor Xiong Yi from Shenzhen Luohu People’s Hospital emphasised the shortage of sonographers in community health centres. MGI’s 5G-powered Remote Robotic Ultrasound System allows high-quality diagnostics to reach underserved areas efficiently, optimising resource allocation.

Real-world applications

Professor Ren Xiuyun of 301 Hainan Hospital described the deployment of the system on Sansha Island. Since 2017, the 5G remote ultrasound clinic, established in collaboration with Sansha People’s Hospital, has provided ultrasonic diagnosis to nearly 400 residents. During COVID-19, MGIUS-R3 enabled remote expert support, reducing infection risks for medical personnel.

Professor Wu Meng of Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University reviewed the system’s use at Leishenshan Hospital during the 2020 pandemic, allowing experts thousands of miles away to conduct real-time diagnosis and improve patient outcomes.

Robotic Ultrasound Vehicle

In 2021, MGI launched the Robotic Ultrasound Vehicle, a mobile diagnostic clinic capable of operating without a professional sonographer on-site. Professor Fei Xiang of Beijing 301 Hospital demonstrated remote diagnosis at 3,700 metres altitude using the 5G network, illustrating the system’s adaptability to extreme environments.
