Seoul, South Korea, 6 July 2023 – MGI Tech Co. Ltd. (MGI), a company dedicated to developing core tools and technologies to advance life science, announced that its ultra-high-throughput genetic sequencer, DNBSEQ-T7, has received medical device registration from the Korea Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS). This milestone marks another significant step for MGI in expanding its presence in the South Korean market, bringing cutting-edge sequencing technologies to a wide range of large-scale genomic applications.
Powered by MGI’s proprietary DNBSEQ™ technology, the DNBSEQ-T7 is a four-chip sequencing platform capable of generating 7Tb of data per day, completing up to 60 whole human genomes per day. Demonstrating MGI’s commitment to accelerating sequencing, the DNBSEQ-T7 has achieved technological breakthroughs in both performance and cost efficiency, optimising biochemical, fluidics, and optical systems to make sequencing faster, more efficient, and more productive.
The platform’s ultra-high throughput and efficiency make it ideal for a broad spectrum of applications, including agriculture, multi-omics research, clinical whole-genome or exome sequencing, metagenomics of complex microbial communities, biodiversity studies, and other large-scale sequencing projects. Notably, the DNBSEQ-T7 has been selected to support National Genome Projects worldwide, including in Thailand, Indonesia, and Brazil, highlighting MGI’s ongoing efforts to make gene sequencing technology more accessible in the genomic era.

Earlier this year, MGI celebrated the opening of its Customer Experience Center (CEC) in Cheonan, South Korea, in partnership with BMS (Bio-Medical Science Co., Ltd.), a leading life science technology company. The CEC provides local customers and partners with hands-on access to MGI’s latest products. Previously, MGI’s DNBSEQ-G50 and DNBSEQ-G400 sequencers, as well as the MGISP-960, MGISP-100 automated sample preparation systems, and MGISP-NE32 automated nucleic acid extractor, had also obtained MFDS certification for clinical use in South Korea. The registration of the DNBSEQ-T7 underscores MGI’s ongoing commitment to delivering innovative genomics technologies to local markets.
This milestone also reinforces MGI’s international expansion following its China NMPA qualification and CE-IVD mark in 2020, enabling entry into the Chinese and European markets.
