On International Women’s Day, MGI partnered with Roche to provide a three-day voluntary early breast cancer detection and diagnosis service for nearly 100 female employees in Shanghai. The initiative was delivered in collaboration with Shanghai Engineering Research Center of Ultrasound Diagnosis and Treatment, Shanghai No.10 People’s Hospital and Zhongshan Hospital affiliated with Fudan University. Supported by MGI’s 5G-powered Robotic Ultrasound System, patients received quality medical services with minimal disruption to their daily routines.
At the 2021 China International Import Expo, MGI and Roche formed a strategic alliance focused on “Early Detection, Early Diagnosis, and Early Treatment” of cancer. The partnership aims to build an integrated system to support cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment. MGI’s Robotic Ultrasound System, MGIUS-R3, the world’s first innovative system for remote cancer detection, plays a key role in the programme, making medical resources more accessible to those in need.
The global cancer landscape is evolving. According to WHO experts on World Cancer Day 2021, breast cancer has overtaken lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer worldwide. In China, statistics from the Chinese Journal of Oncology show that breast cancer incidence among women is low under the age of 20, increases rapidly with age, and peaks around 55–60 years. Early detection and regular ultrasound screening can identify asymptomatic breast cancer years earlier, with a five-year survival rate of up to 90%, significantly reducing mortality.
National health authorities recommend that women over 45 (or 40 for those at high risk) undergo an annual breast ultrasound. Comprehensive measures should focus on rural women and urban women living on subsistence allowances, providing screening services for both cervical and breast cancer and promoting early diagnosis and treatment.
The voluntary “Caring for Women’s Health – Public Breast Ultrasound Examination” event organised by MGI and Roche has helped raise awareness of breast health among urban women. Moving forward, MGI will continue collaborating with industry partners to enhance awareness of “Early Detection, Early Diagnosis, and Early Treatment” of cancer, providing high-quality medical resources and services to improve women’s health.
