Düsseldorf, Germany, 14 November 2022 – MGI, a company dedicated to building core tools and technologies to lead life science, today announced the introduction of its latest MGISP-Smart 8 automated sample preparation system to Europe, alongside the first iteration of its Empowerment Program, at the MEDICA Trade Fair, taking place 14–17 November in Düsseldorf.

First introduced to international markets outside China in January, the MGISP-Smart 8 is an independent 8-channel pipetting robot capable of flexible and customisable lab automation. Its innovations in pipette and gripper functions, including independent multi-channel dynamic positioning and dual-level liquid detection, enable high precision. Equipped with advanced technologies such as an intelligent integrated gripper and a triple slide track design, MGISP-Smart 8 supports a variety of applications, from sequencing library preparation to nucleic acid detection and general sample preparation.
In addition to the MGISP-Smart 8, MGI will showcase other products from its portfolio of laboratory automation platforms and advanced sequencing devices, including the MGISP-100 and MGISP-960 automated sample preparation systems, the DNBSEQ-G400 genetic sequencer, and the MGIUS-R3 robotic ultrasound system from MGI IMABOT.
This year’s MEDICA also marks the launch of the MGI Empowerment Program, which aims to expand choice in sequencing. The programme collaborates with diagnostic companies and public institutions to develop library preparation kits fully compatible with MGI sequencing platforms, while supporting and accelerating the IVDR certification process through MGI’s collaborator, Platomics. Participating companies gain access to MGI’s precise and innovative DNBSEQ™ technology, powered by HotMPS chemistry, to enhance patient care through personalised medicine or more efficient genetic testing.
Previously, MGI has supported partners such as VarSome in Switzerland and ALACRiS Theranostics in Germany, offering expert solutions for high-throughput sequencing and comprehensive end-to-end cancer diagnostic solutions through the Empowerment Program.
