Shanghai, China, 25 April 2023 – MGI Tech Co., Ltd. (“MGI”), a company committed to developing core tools and technologies to advance the life sciences, today announced its partnership with Shanghai-based JMDNA Biomedical Technology Co., Ltd. (“JMDNA”) for the DNBSEQ-T20×2 (“T20”) sequencer. This represents the first corporate order of the T20 sequencer worldwide, a platform renowned for its ultra-high throughput and cost-efficiency.

The T20 sequencer was officially launched at the Advances in Genome Biology and Technology (AGBT) conference in the United States in February 2023. Touted as “a trailblazing sequencing factory,” a single T20 unit can produce up to 50,000 whole genome sequences per year at under USD 100 per 30× human genome, opening new possibilities for large-scale genomic research.

According to Data Bridge Market Research, the global next-generation sequencing (NGS) market is projected to reach USD 29.3 billion by 2029, driven by falling costs per base and the growing applications of sequencing technology in downstream genomics sectors.

Equipped with the T20 and other MGI platforms, JMDNA’s Large-scale Genome Sequencing Center supports gene-specialised applications and research projects, including large population cohort studies and Stereo-seq. The centre aims to address sequencing supply and demand challenges, expand industry applications, and accelerate scientific and technological advances.

Notably, the T20 platform addresses computational, storage, and data management challenges associated with massive genomic datasets.
