Stockholm, Sweden, 14 June 2023 – MGI, a company committed to developing core tools and technologies to advance the life sciences, today announced the signing of a licensing agreement with Xpress Genomics, a Stockholm-based company specialising in automated and scalable RNA sequencing strategies. This strategic collaboration aims to advance genomics research through the development of new scalable solutions for deep single-cell RNA sequencing, combining Xpress Genomics’ technologies with MGI’s automation and sequencing platforms.
Founded by Professor Rickard Sandberg and researchers from his laboratory, Xpress Genomics is led by CEO Dr Christoph Ziegenhain. The company focuses on developing scalable single-cell RNA sequencing technologies without compromising data quality or coverage. Its approach delivers high sensitivity and full-length transcript coverage, enabling large-scale transcriptome-wide analysis of marker genes, transcribed genetic variation and splicing events.

Xpress Genomics has also opened a new laboratory facility at the Cancer Centre Karolinska (CCK) in Sweden, equipped with MGI’s DNBSEQ sequencing systems*. The facility will provide local collaborators and partners with access to Xpress Genomics’ single-cell RNA sequencing solutions. “This new laboratory serves as an important bridge to the local research and diagnostic community, supporting new genomic discoveries and advances in medicine,” said Yong Hou, General Manager of MGI Europe and Africa. “It is encouraging to see MGI’s continued commitment to empowering local customers and partners to pursue meaningful scientific progress.”
